Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We published our first issue in September of 2008
What is your primary product or service?
We are first and foremost a fun family newspaper and educational resource. In addition, we are an exceptional marketing/advertising vehicle as our readers do business with our advertisers and sponsors and we have the data to prove it.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I have been in the newspaper business for over 30 years. I became interested in bringing a valuable resource to our community when I learned that our reading proficiency levels were at around 40% (children not reading at grade level)and that 25% of our children do not finish high school. The ability to read ties to so many things but most importantly, it provides a child confidence and self esteem. Children have to be motivated and want to learn/read. That's why at Kidsville News! we make learning fun! Kids (and parents) love Truman, our dragon mascot and want to interact with him in print, online and in person!
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are unique in that our audience is engaged. Our readers love our content, interactive activities and involvement in our schools and our community. We are used/read both in school/in classroom and at home. We deliver to schools for use in the classroom, the local libraries and numerous rack locations throughout Central Florida. Our readers support our advertisers and sponsors and we have the CVC Readership Survey and testimonials to prove it! Kidsville News!is an audited publication. We also provide BrainWorks resource worksheets (created by teachers) that correspond to the content in the paper for parents and teachers to download and use to work with their children. We are a conduit to the community. We deliver results. Last but not least, Truman, our mascot, sets us apart and makes us truly unique from any other publication targeting parents, age 22-45 with children.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
